LOST 5.1
Because You Left
[blog one]
We start off with Dr. Pierre Chang [also known as Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Mark Wickmond and Dr. Edgar Hallowax who we have seen previously in the Dharma orientation films] in bed with who we can assume is his wife. We see his alarm go off at 8:15:
Which we know are two of the numbers.
Chang then gets out of bed to tend to his crying baby:
I came to the conclusion that the baby has to be someone we know, someone significant. Jin or Sun wouldn't make any sense obviously, but Miles would. Maybe he has his special power of communicating with the dead because of being born in the Island. I also think it's how he knew Charlotte had been on the Island before, maybe he saw her there or knew of her while he was on the Island. The only thing that wouldn't make sense then, is how they would have survived when Ben killed the Dharma Initiative unless they had already been taken off of the Island at that point.
We then see Chang making an orientation video for "Station 2 - The Arrow" where Chang referrs to himself as Dr. Marvin Candle:
[SIDE NOTE: All of Chang's fake names used for Dharma videos have something to do with candles. Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Mark Wickmond and Dr. Edgar Hallowax]
Before getting cut off by a Dharma worker Chang states that the people assigned to The Arrow's purpose are to "Develop defensive strategies and gather intelligence on the islands hostile indigenous..." No doubt he is referring to the island's original inhabitants led by Richard. Later in the episode after time traveling, Juliet, Miles, Daniel, Charlotte along with the Losties that remain on the Island are attacked with burning arrows. Did The Arrow's workers mistake them for Richard and his group? I'll come back to this later.
So Chang is interrupted by a Dharma worker who informs him there is a problem at the Orchid Station. We know the Orchid station from the finale of season three as the station that Ben used to move the Island. When there, Chang is informed that upon drilling into the rock their drill bits have been melting off. Also the operator had grabbed his head and started flipping out. Nose bleeds and all. Then Chang is shown a picture of what's behind the rock, which we knew from season three as the "frozen donkey wheel" which is what Ben had to turn in order to move the Island:
Chang then explains to the Dharma worker that an energy was contained inside that could allow them to manipulate time. He also tells him that there were rules that could not be broken with the manipulation of time.
The "rules" have been mentioned before on Lost, specifically at the end of last season when Keamy kills Bens daughter, Alex. Ben seems astonished and says "he changed the rules", he mentioned the rules again when he meets Widmore face to face and threatens to go after his daughter; "And once she's gone... once she's dead... then you'll understand how I feel. And you'll wish you hadn't changed the rules. "
We then see Daniel in the Orchid Station dressed in Dharma gear, which at the time was really confusing, but as the episode goes on we can assume he time traveled back to the time when the Dharma was still on the Island. I wonder if they will come back to what he does there soon, or if we will have to wait to find out.
